How Kybella works

Kybella is an FDA approved injectable made of synthetic deoxycholic acid, a molecule your body uses to break down dietary fat. Injected into the fat under the chin, it destroys fat cells, which are then cleared by the body. Once destroyed, those fat cells do not come back.

Who it is for

Kybella works best for people with a moderate pocket of fat under the chin and good skin elasticity. If the fullness is mostly loose skin, a tightening treatment like Morpheus8, Sofwave or Ultherapy may help more, or a combination.

What to expect

• The area is marked with a grid and numbed with ice or cream.
• Small injections take about 15 minutes and burn for several minutes.
• Expect real swelling, a "bullfrog" look, for three to seven days, plus numbness and tenderness for a few weeks.
• Plan treatments around social events. Most people need two to four sessions at least a month apart.
