Editorial policy

How reviews work on the Hot List.

A review on NYC Hot List is a verified New Yorker telling you what happened, what it cost and whether they would go back. Here is exactly how we keep that honest.

Who can review

Anyone with a free account verified by phone. One review per person per provider per visit. We ask for the month of your visit and the treatment you had. You can review anonymously to readers, but never to us.

What we ask

Every review is read by a human

Before a review posts, an editor reads it. We hold reviews that read like marketing, that attack a person rather than describe a visit, that include medical claims we cannot verify, or that come from an account tied to the business. We do not edit the substance of a review. We may trim personal details that identify a third party.

Google reviews are context, not score

Listings show their Google rating, review count and a handful of recent Google reviews, with the reviewer’s name and the Google label, so you have context on day one. We show them as Google provides them and never edit them. They are not counted in the Hot List rating, which comes only from verified reviews posted here. Hot List reviews always appear first.

Providers cannot pay to change reviews

Claimed and Premier listings get placement, tools and a badge. They do not get review removal, review ordering, or any influence over moderation. A provider can reply publicly to any review and can flag a review for a second editor read. Flagged reviews stay live unless they break the rules above.

Conflicts of interest

Editors and staff do not review providers they have a personal or commercial relationship with. Comped treatments are disclosed on the review. Agency clients of our parent company are labeled on their listing.

Corrections and removal

If a review contains a factual error, tell the editors. If you wrote a review and want it taken down, sign in and delete it, or contact us from the email on your account.

Nothing on NYC Hot List is medical advice. Reviews describe one person’s experience. Consult a licensed provider about whether a treatment is right for you.
