I’m someone who values supporting great businesses, and my experience with Dr. Gilberto Alvarez at Downtown Dermatology in NYC absolutely deserves a review.
I went in for help with sun spots on my face and was looking for a straightforward, effective solution. What I appreciated right away was how efficient and professional the entire visit was. Dr. Alvarez was knowledgeable, confident, and didn’t overcomplicate anything, he addressed my concerns clearly and got straight to the point.
What really impressed me was how painless and effortless the treatment was, he is a true professional.
The office is clean, well-run, and has that elevated NYC feel where you know you’re in good hands. The whole experience felt seamless and high-quality without being overwhelming.
If you’re looking for a dermatologist in NYC for sun spot removal or overall skin clarity, I would definitely recommend Dr. Alvarez. I’ll be coming back for future visits.
I have made an appointment last week for today at 10:00 Am and when was asked to provide an email and I have said that I preferred to be connected by text. I confirmed the appointment twice and when I got to the office, provided my Insurance card and ID . Then I was asked to filled out the information and on my email was an invented email address with my name misspelled Daisy and #$. So I this point I deleted and entered my correct email and the from desk asked me for a credit card.
I have replied why you need a credit card if my insurance pays everything and I don't have no deductible or co-pay. And she replied in case of cancelation or any other bill unpaid. Unless I leave my credit card the Doctor Gilberto Alvarez is not going to see me.
This is unacceptable because when I made the appointment noone told me to bring a credit card.
I have asked for a manager Melissa and it was worth because her attitude killed me starting , everyone that cone here bring a credit card. She suggested to go home and come with a credit card or called someone to provided me the number. I have said, no one is home.
I have tell her once I get home I can call and provide the credit card or fax it and she said everyone said the same thing and never called. I felt so bad.
I took a day off for this appointment and I never have the chance to see the Doctor.
I have asked that i want to speak to the Doctor Gilberto and she said the Doctor doesn't speak with patients in regard to this matter.
It is so sad that if you don't carry or have a credit card a patient doesn't have no right to see a Doctor.
Very disappointed and uncomfortable.
Outstanding Dermatologist — Skilled, Caring, and Precise
I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Alverez. He is one of the most caring and knowledgeable dermatologists I’ve ever met. From the moment you walk in, he takes the time to truly listen, explain every step, and make sure you feel comfortable and informed.
When it comes to procedures involving a needle, his skill is unmatched — his hand is incredibly steady, his technique precise, and he approaches every treatment with such attention to detail and confidence that you immediately feel at ease. He’s truly one of the few doctors I trust completely with a needle anywhere near my face.
Dr. Alverez combines genuine compassion with exceptional technical expertise — a rare and wonderful combination. I’m so grateful to have found him and would recommend him without hesitation to anyone looking for expert, trustworthy dermatological care.
I booked an appointment online, uploaded my insurance information and ID, confirmed the appointment, and received confirmation via email. When I arrived at the clinic, the front desk staff informed me that they do not take my insurance. There was no apology for wasting my time and no one ever called me to apologize, meanwhile the website still indicates that they do accept my insurance. The person whom I spoke with at the clinic indicated that she attempted to call me once, but did not get through, and provided the option for me to self-pay. Is it youth that prevented her from understanding the problem with this whole scenario? Why would I plan to self-pay when I have insurance that, per DD's website, is accepted? Why would I plan to self-pay when the online booking process accepted my information and confirmed the appointment? Why would I plan to self-pay when I already pay for my insurance? Why would DD not reach out to me again and leave a message or send an email, providing me with the opportunity to make an informed decision about the upcoming appointment? The staff person distanced herself from the entire situation and took no responsibility for how she handled the matter. What I saw was client disregard, poor communication skills, and lack of problem solving skills. DD needs to do better on the administrative side.
Dr. Alverez is absolutely fantastic! I can't recommend him enough.
