I have mixed feelings about my experience at Knead NYC.
The Thai massage itself was good and did feel authentically Thai, with excellent stretching that really worked my body so I was genuinely satisfied with the massage portion.
However, other aspects of the experience were slightly off-putting.
A couple hours after booking, I was asked to shift my appointment back by 30 minutes presumably so they could accommodate another client which I did agree to.
I arrived 12 minutes early due to reminders about shortened sessions for late arrivals, but when I rang the bell, no one answered.I ended up waiting in a slightly sketchy hallway with no seating, only to later discover there was a waiting area inside. A simple sign asking clients to enter and wait quietly would help. My appointment also started about 15 minutes late, which I do understand can happen between sessions.
But undoubtedly the most uncomfortable part was at the end of the session. After paying $24 in cash to cover tax and a $19 tip, the therapist told me a $25 tip was required for a $120 massage and attempted to show me signage stating this. This was stressful and inappropriate after a service meant to be relaxing, and it significantly soured the experience.
While the massage itself was good, I don't think I'll be returning due to this part of the experience. Personally, I’ll opt for other Thai massage spots nearby (for example, I recommend Siya Healing Spa that offers a more transparent and welcoming experience with nicer facilities and ambience. Their stretching is arguably not quite as strong but their Thai massage is ultimately super satisfying and in my opinion overall more relaxing and hospitable). If you do book here, be aware to factor in a tip of over 20% if you want to avoid an uncomfortable interaction.
Bowie was great! I had so much tension and a lot of knots in my shoulders and calves and she patiently worked them out despite being out of time for our session to ensure I have as much relief as possible. Everyone is very kind in the office as well. Highly recommend!
Without a doubt, one of the best and most therapeutic massages I've ever had. My husband and I booked a couples massage with Jae and Bo, and we are fairly muscular men weighing close to 200 lbs, these two massage therapists exerted such strength and even, continuous pressure they relaxed sore points we didn't even know we had. I'd characterize it as a cross between sports massage and deep tissue with perhaps a little chiropractic movement thrown in. Highly recommend.
It was my first time getting a massage. Just finished my session with Katy. She focused a lot on my tighter spots. I really enjoyed it and recommend it! ☺️
Bo and Alyssa were amazing! They focused on every single knot and after the massage we felt so clear headed and relaxed.
